Frugal Pinoy started in February 2008, initially as an entry to Pinoy Money Talk’s SEO contest at that time. Although Frugal Pinoy didn’t win, it was the leading site for 3 weeks throughout the duration of the contest.

Since then, Frugal Pinoy has been dedicated to providing practical tips and advice on personal finance.

The Frugal Pinoy Manifesto

Every organization, movement, or group has some written version of their manifesto or vision. It’s a declaration of intent and direction. As a reference and a reminder, here is what Frugal Pinoy stands for:

Money is a useful tool. But it is a limited tool. It can buy security, but not happiness. It can buy valuables, but it can’t create your code of values. With money, you can get to where you want to go, but money can’t choose your destination for you. Like all tools, it is neither good nor evil – it all depends on how you use it.

Behavior and action matter more than the facts. Financial freedom doesn’t come from sitting around and reading all the personal finance books and blogs you can get your hands on. True, educating yourself is important, but it can be useless if you don’t act on the things you learn. To change your finances, you need to change your behavior – and that can only come from action.

Small steps have big returns. Instead of changing your financial life overnight, it’s better to make small changes one at a time. Not only is complete, sudden change almost impossible, it’s also hard to sustain. This is why it’s hard to follow extreme diets or ambitious New Year’s Resolutions. But if you make one small change, one at a time, you can make more progress.
